Jeff Hackney Artist Statement

The transition to professional sculptor was a natural progression after twenty-five years of design and construction experience as well as a lifetime of curiosity about structure and balance.  By experimenting with traditional techniques in wood, steel, concrete and bronze, I work to explore the limits of material possibilities… Bending concrete, coaxing organic forms out of steel, making steel rods and brass mesh float on water, expand not only material possibilities but my own as well.

Since becoming a professional sculptor in 2007, I have entered seventeen juried opportunities comprised of over 4,900 national and international artist applicants. I have been chosen as a finalist or have taken honors in thirteen of the seventeen, including Best in Show. My works have been collected in both private and public collections in eleven states and Brazil and are included in the permanent municipal collections of Sandy Springs, GA; Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, NC; Burlington, NC, Mebane, NC, Alamance County, NC, Wilmington, NC and King University in Bristol, Tennessee.
